A family friend of mine was diagnosed with a brain tumor nearly 6 years ago. She had it removed successfully, and everything was okay.
Two years ago, at her yearly scan, they found a new tumor, in a part of her brain that makes it impossible to operate. It presses on a…

You might be aware that today in St. Petersburg, attempts are being made to pass a bill that will illegalise the public action, speech and reference concerning homosexuality, bisexuality or transgenderism. This law would put at jeopardy the millions of lives that are effected by this issue, not to mention their families, friends, communities etc. Not only does it bar the freedom of speech but it also is a direct trigger for severe depression, anxiety and suicide.
We all know our history but we choose to ignore it. Every time human rights have been breached, even in a seemingly minute way, terror and repression has followed. The worst aspect of this is that we are completely and fully aware that it is at the hands of the human race. We have the power to build and glorify our names but we also have the power to destroy at the flick of a pen.
It won’t singularly be those who directly pass this bill that are at fault. It will be those who stood by and watched. When human rights are breached, our children become the victims.

I’m sorry to be doing this again; please note, I don’t agree with the top person either.
My ‘Read more’ button’s gone. Insert a ‘read more’ here.
Things called an abomination (to’evah):
· “Lying with a man as with a woman”
o The punishment for this (in Leviticus 20) is the same as that for:
§ A man lying with his father’s wife (not necessarily his mother)
§ A man lying with his daughter in law
§ A man or woman lying with a beast
o The punishment for, for example, one man lying with a woman and her mother, is that they shall be burned in fire (as opposed to just put to death) and their act is described as ‘depraved’ – zimma.
· Carved images of pagan gods
· Non-kosher animals
o I think here is a good place to make my point that it is only described as an ‘abomination’ for JEWS. If a non-Jew eats pork/shrimp/birds of prey, that’s okay. The laws in the Torah are ONLY FOR JEWS, except the Noahide laws:
§ Command to establish courts of law
§ Prohibition of blasphemy
§ Prohibition of idolatry
§ Prohibition of sexual immorality
§ Prohibition of murder
§ Prohibition of theft
§ Prohibition of tearing/eating a limb off a living animal.
· A man marrying a woman he’s divorced after she’s married and divorced someone else
o This is not only “an abomination before Hashem,” but described as “bringing sin upon the land”
According to my search, that’s it. No more ‘abominations’ in the Torah (5 books of Moses). The other laws that you’ve mentioned are described in different ways; don’t equate them.
A few notes on the laws you did mention:
· Stoning a kid who is ‘hard to handle’ – I shall assume you are talking about the ‘rebellious and wayward’ son. There are VERY specific qualifications for this so as to prevent it from occurring. It is widely accepted that no such case has ever arisen, and that the whole section as basically a parable.
· Shaving/hair cutting – We may cut our hair, just not the ‘corners of our face’. Have you seen pictures of ultra-orthodox Jews with long curly sections of hair either side of their face? That’s their interpretation of the law. Note that they don’t have long hair. Men who do shave their beards (and many don’t) only use certain types of shavers – they can’t use the ones that cut with only one blade (or even several in the same direction). Again, this law ONLY applies to Jews.
· Okay sorry what’s wrong with football? That’s not one I know.
· We can’t sentence people to death without a Sanhedrin - a court of 71 important sages – and there are very stringent laws regarding the trial.
I’ll leave you with that, but please remember to do your research first. On both sides, a weak argument just makes you look weaker.
Football’s are made of pigskin. Leviticus 11:8 “You shall not eat of their flesh or touch their carcasses.”
And as most of my points are in the Old Testament, I don’t see how it just applies to Jews, as Christianity teaches from the Old Testament as well.
Either way, I wasn’t asking for a deep analysis of what I had written. It was just enough to state my point that the Bible is outdated and shouldn’t be taken word for word.
I’m going to opt for not arguing with the football then, because I’ve never actually learnt anything on the matter, and don’t want to say something wrong.
Unless I’m very seriously mistaken, law-wise, Christians don’t follow the Old Testament. They made a New Testament saying they don’t have to.
You don’t have to ask for a deep analysis of what you write. You just have to write it, and then you must accept that it is allowed to be broken apart and argued with, especially if you post it in a very public place saying you’re awesome.
Here’s the thing; I’m a religious Jew. I don’t believe that the bible is outdated, not in that way. As for taking it word for word, for centuries, for millenia, our scholars have been studying it and arguing over it taking it not just word for word but deeper than that. So no, I will not have sex before I get married. No, I don’t eat pork or shrimp (personally I’m a vegetarian, but even before that I didn’t). No, I don’t mix linen with wool… Yes, I do gossip, but I’m wrong to do so and should really work harder to stop.
You get it?
I was being sarcastic when I said I was being awesome because I’m really not. ._.From what I was taught as a child, the Old Testament is just as relevant as the New Testament
until I became an atheist but oh well. And you’re right and I’m sorry. I’m just not used to people actually paying attention to my ideas and analysing them. I guess it just kind of shocked me that someone would go so far to do that. I respect your beliefs and your opinions and I sincerely apologize if I came off as a douchebag.
I can’t recognise sarcasm well enough when spoken, let alone in text.
Don’t worry, you didn’t come off as a douchebag. Sorry too if I come off too strong. Believe me, I disagree with Dasedbyallthis as well.
Maybe the reason dazedbyallthis is so sickened is because he actually did just read the bible and took everything very literally. There’s a lot more to it than first meets the eye, and it needs to be studied this way or else you end up learning the wrong lessons.
In the same way, there’s more to a person than first meets the eye. If you know someone who’s gay, don’t condemn them, hate them, damn them to hell etc. Maybe there’s more to them than just their actions, things you will never know and, therefore, things that you’ll never have the right to judge.
[How dare you attack the sleeping panda?!]
I’m so glad to hear from you and I’m even happier to hear that all seems to be going steady. And when it isn’t? - Just smile and think of all the good that you have. And remember that you’re you which is always a brilliant first step.
Happy new year :)

Made a list of things to do today so that I wouldn’t sit around doing nothing.
I’ll finish it tomorrow.
Your list of things to do is beautiful. Try not to think of it as separate blocks, each of which you think you have failed. In that way you can only see yourself losing chances in small gaps of choice time and time again. Life is one thing altogether and maybe one word that you try to say more politely in the morning will have turned you onto a new train of thought the next afternoon. You keep building up and you can’t fail a day because your entire life is a process.
This is a hug from me and Bagel.
